The Southern Railway has released a big recruitment notification for the year 2025. A total of 3518 Apprentice posts are available for eligible candidates. Total Vacancies
The Southern Railway is offering 3518 Apprentice seats. These are divided into two categories:
- Freshers (Non-ITI): 1239 posts
- Ex-ITI Candidates: 2279 posts
- Grand Total: 3518 Apprentice Vacancies
These vacancies are spread across various railway divisions and workshops including Chennai, Tiruchirappalli, Madurai, Trivandrum, Salem, and Podanur.
Eligibility Criteria
To apply for these apprentice posts, candidates must meet the following conditions:
Educational Qualification
- Freshers: Must have passed 10th class with at least 50% marks. For certain trades, 12th with Science and Mathematics is required.
- Ex-ITI Candidates: Must have passed 10th class and also possess an ITI certificate in the relevant trade, issued by NCVT/SCVT.
Age Limit
- Minimum Age: 15 years
- Maximum Age: 24 years (as on cut-off date in notification)
- Age Relaxation:
- SC/ST: +5 years
- OBC: +3 years
- PwD: +10 years
Selection Process
- The selection will be purely based on merit.
- Merit list will be prepared using marks obtained in 10th/12th and ITI (if applicable).
- No written exam or interview will be conducted.
- Final shortlisted candidates will undergo document verification and medical check.
Training & Stipend
Apprentices will undergo training as per the Apprentices Act, 1961.
- Freshers: Approx. ₹6,000 – ₹7,000 per month
- Ex-ITI Apprentices: Approx. ₹7,000 – ₹9,000 per month
Training duration will depend on the chosen trade, generally between 1 to 2 years.
